It depends on your age. An adolescent or a young adult prefers to spend more time with friends than with family members. They are learning to be independent and are curious to learn new things, hence this change occurs. However, you should try to balance and spend time with both your family and friends.

Thanks for reaching out to Rich psych.  I understand that sometime we do like friends over family.  Frienda probably do not sat any critical remarks   i assume thar your frienda are of your age group. So your liking and disliking is also similar. Hence you feel more happy to spend time with them.  Again you have to think that what are the benefits you get from your family, how the family supported you when the friends were not beside you . If you think how the family has helped and supported you - i think you will get the answer yourself !
